Interior Design After COVID-19: New Realities for Clients and Designers
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the interior design industry has been facing new challenges that have impacted clients’ home renovation experience.
A s the sun seeped through the blinds and awoke Alex Queripel on a late spring morning last May she knew that today would be identical to the day before, and the day before that. She slowly lifted her body and stretched her tired muscles before making her way downstairs to go on her routine walk with her son Christopher around the block. The journey through the house was much too familiar. Queripel was surrounded by the same walls, the same furniture, the same everything. The coronavirus lockdown kept her stuck in her house in Summit, NJ with her family for months. As much as she adores her indoor space at home, it is easy to get tired of more of the same every day.
To escape, Queripel wanted to find time to get outside and enjoy a new environment with her family. Being outside was also the only way Queripel could see her friends and continue teaching knitting classes with her students in a safe setting. However, she found herself escaping to a deck that hadn’t been updated in 15 years accompanied by aged and outdated patio furniture.
